Sinatra Like the book, it may seem dated now. It is a realistic novel of how characters lived and survived from 1940 to 1965. But the writing stays fresh. In 1979, Roderick Thorp wrote a sequel to his novel The Detective called Nothing Lasts Forever, in which Leland is trapped in a Klaxon Oil Corporation skyscraper after it is taken by German terrorists and must rescue his daughter and grandchildren.
