WebMar 16, 2024 · My bass has a glossy nitro finish and I got a Hercules stand for it, after I had confirmed the compatibility of the nitro finish with the synthetic rubber cushions on the yoke. I checked with the manufacturer and did research on the web. To be safe though, I did cut up an old wool sock and that covers the yoke.

I also have a few "On Stage Stands" that have never damaged nitro finishes. WebMar 14, 2024 · Nitro takes a long time to dry, and in those first two years (mostly the first year) it can be susceptible to chemicals used in guitar stand foam. The stand hasn't left anything on your guitar, it has simply melted some of the finish off. I've seen it happen with expensive stands that claim to be "nitro safe" just as often as with cheap stands.

Thomann normally labels stands as "Safe for nitro" if they are considered to be that. WebMay 9, 2024 · In general, if you have any doubt as to if a stand is nitro safe, you can cover anywhere the stand touches the guitar with cotton cloth. It's the interaction between the rubber covering and the nitro that will potentially melt the finish.
