Jan 16, 2012. #1. I recently purchased used an Boston Shipstrike quartz clock, solid brass. This clock was made in Dec. 1983, it is a 4.5" ships clock. The brass case most weigh at least 5Lbs. The bells strke correctly. BUT. The it intermitently stops, if I set on the table, face up, sometimes it will run for days. then it will stop.

A shipstrike has one ring for each half hour, thus at 8pm it would strike 8 times, 8:30 1 time, 9:00 2 times etc until the four hour "watch period" is over. Mine is striking 8 times at 7:00, rather than at 8:00. At 7:00 it should strike 6 times, same for 11:00 etc.
